Our Mission

C.U.R.E.’s mission is to provide clean, safe and affordable housing to residents of Westchester County and its surrounding communities.

C.U.R.E. was founded in 1999 as a nonprofit organization based in Yonkers, New York. James Simmons, the Executive Director, was raised in Southwest Yonkers and had the goal of creating an organization that would provide people from the community clean, and safe affordable housing.

C.U.R.E.’s first project was part of the revitalization of the old Gazette building located on Main Street in Downtown Yonkers, now known as Zuppa’s Restaurant. Soon after, C.U.R.E. would move on to complete projects in the Warburton Avenue Urban Renewal area, and build affordable town homes including a twelve unit affordable condominium building.

C.U.R.E.’s second notable project was the development of the Lillie Pearl affordable condominium, a $3 million project that consisted of 12 total units: 6 two-family units and 6 three-family units, including free parking and dedicated community space.

Nearly twenty years later, C.U.R.E. continues its mission to provide home improvement and construction management throughout Yonkers and the greater Westchester County area — having provided millions of dollars in home repairs and renovations.

“Not everyone wants to move away to a new community. They just want it to be better where they are.”

— James L. Simmons, Executive Director
